VOYEUR VOYEUR AND PAULIN, PAULIN, PAULININTRODUCE AN EXCLUSIVE TONGUE CHAIR EDITION

London-based concept store Voyeur Voyeur and design studio Paulin, Paulin, Paulin introduce a special edition of Pierre Paulin’s iconic Tongue Chair, produced exclusively for the store.

This project takes place within a pivotal moment for Paulin, Paulin, Paulin, following the announcement of the re-edition of several of Pierre Paulin’s most iconic designs, including the Tongue Chair (1967), one of the designer’s most celebrated works and part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Originally conceived for wider distribution, these pieces are now reintroduced with a broader accessibility, marking a new chapter in the transmission of Paulin’s work.

This special edition also finds its origin in Voyeur Voyeur’s founder’s, Kat Qiu, participation in the first Paulin, Paulin, Paulin campaign, Industrial Icon | Pierre Paulin, photographed by Thibaut Grevet. Extending this initial dialogue, the project continues through both the creation of this exclusive piece and a dedicated photographic series featuring Kat Qiu in interaction with the Tongue Chair.

For Voyeur Voyeur, Paulin, Paulin, Paulin has developed a special edition Tongue Chair upholstered in Toray’s Ultrasuede® fabric in U2828L Burgundy, creating a direct connection between the chair and the architecture of the store itself.  Ultrasuede® is already deeply embedded in Voyeur Voyeur’s identity: the material is used in the store’s changing rooms as well as in the custom uniforms worn by staff, forming part of the space’s distinctive visual language. By upholstering the Tongue Chair in this same material, the project translates Voyeur Voyeur’s architectural and atmospheric signature into a collectible design object, establishing a dialogue between furniture, fashion, and space.

At first glance, the worlds of Pierre Paulin and Voyeur Voyeur may appear opposed, yet it is precisely within this contrast that the project finds its coherence, demonstrating the ability of Paulin’s work to exist across contexts and generations.

Originally conceived as a widely distributed design, the Tongue Chair represents the culmination of Pierre Paulin’s research into tubular metal frames, molded foam, and stretch textiles, innovations that allowed him to create furniture that was both ergonomic and radically expressive. Its low, wave-like silhouette reflects Paulin’s distinctive approach to design: solving functional problems through new materials and techniques while producing forms that feel both futuristic and playful.  With this new phase, Paulin, Paulin, Paulin fully embraces its role as editor, opening up new possibilities for the work with no predefined limits in terms of color or interpretation. These re-editions expand upon the studio’s earlier “utopic” pieces, such as Dune, Déclive, and Tapis Siège, originally conceived as part of Pierre Paulin’s vision for modular furniture but never produced during his lifetime.  This special edition created for Voyeur Voyeur comes as a natural extension and closure of this first chapter of reintroducing Pierre Paulin’s designs.  To mark the occasion, Voyeur Voyeur and Paulin, Paulin, Paulin will host a special in-store moment on March 19th, presenting the Tongue Chair as both a functional seat and a sculptural presence within the space.  ABOUT VOYEUR VOYEUR Founded in 2025 by Kat Qiu, Voyeur Voyeur is a multi-label luxury fashion and lifestyle destination located on Bethnal Green Road in East London.
